Horácio Gomes
BIO
Born in 1968, I live in Lisbon, Portugal. I've been doing art and comic books since 1989 and now I started working on graphic illustration, mostly oriented for magazines and literature, childen's books, posters, postcards, t-shirts, patterns for multiple commercial purposes – you name it.
As a comic book writer and artist, I had 3 comic books published in Portugal. The first one was published by Edições Polvo and the following two by my own publishing house, Nova Comix (no longer active), all of them getting very good critical reviews in my own country. Right now I'm working on my new comic book, "Com o Coração na Boca" ("My Heart in My Mouth").
If you need art and illustrations for magazines and literature, children's books, concept art, background art, or even to a particular product or line of products do not hesitate and contact me to talk about your ideia or project. I'll give my best to satisfy your needs and I will stick to your deadline.
My actual work is done with digital tools (Photoshop and Illustrator), and I like to give it the finished results that we usually get with art and illustration done with other kinds of media such as watercolors, acrylics, oil, color pencils, graffiti, etc.
Budgets and prices: I work with all types of budgets and I'll try to come up with a solution fair enough for you and me.

HOBBIES
- Creating my own comic books, children's books and all sort of illustration and artwork to keep learning new techniques and push forward my personal skills and style.
- Read art books and magazines to know what other artists have done or have been doing and learn something new everyday. Right now, my favourite magazines are "Juxtapoz" and "Hi-Fructose".
- Read children's books and some comics to my daughter! Two top-of-the-list? Shaun Tan's books and “Adventure Time” comics (Boom Comics).
- Read comic books, from top-selling titles to alternative and underground comics from the USA and Europe. The list of my favorite writers, artists and titles would be too long to put it here.
- Read about writing techniques for comics and literature.
- Cinema. Specially “larger than life” cinema and animated movies from Disney, Pixar and Studio Ghibli - with a bowl full of popcorns in my lap.
- Music. I usually listen to 3 or 4 new music albums a day when working at the computer. I never get tired of hearing to classic rock, metal, progressive rock, punk rock, lounge music, experimental music, modern classics, movie soundtracks and some Jazz and Fado.
- Beach in the summer with my daughter.
- Draw, colour and paint with her.
